Massachusetts has passed a new oil line code effective now and before September 1, 2011.

MGL Chapter 453

            New Massachusetts Law:    Please Be Aware and Read

A newly enacted Massachusetts state law – MGL, Chapter 453 Homeowner Heating Safety – will protect the environment and help Oil heat consumers. The law requires that older, unprotected oil lines to above ground storage tanks be upgraded with a continuous non-metallic sleeve, or an oil safety valve.

The law also requires that insurance companies offer homeowners the opportunity to purchase additional insurance to aid in oil spill remediation. The insurance is not mandatory for Oil heated homes.

This Law is in effect now, and a September 12011 deadline is also in effect. If your oil line is not protected with either remedy mentioned above then you must conform to this new law by September 1, 2011.

We at Leominster Plumbing and Heating Company wish to inform you of this new law and also to remedy an old oil line situation you may have. Please see the attached “OIL LINE CONFORMANCE SPECIAL” we have currently in place for our valued customers who have an old “unprotected” oil line now.

If you already have an oil safety valve at the oil tank attached to the oil line, than you are ok, and all set. Or, if your oil line is in a non-metallic sleeve than you are ok and in compliance. Any questions, please call the office.

* CALL AND HAVE YOUR OIL LINE SCHEDULED FOR THE “LAW CONFORMING” OIL LINE REPLACEMENT OR AN OIL SAFETY VALVE INSTALLED AND YOU WILL RECEIVE NOW. 

** Also, we will certify a written copy of completed upgrade work and will send a copy to the local Fire Department and to you the home owner. The local Fire Department will forward a copy to the State Fire Services Department.
