            New Massachusetts Law:    Please Be Aware and Read

A newly enacted Massachusetts state law – MGL, Chapter 453 Homeowner Heating Safety – will protect the environment and help Oil heat consumers. The law requires that older, unprotected oil lines to above ground storage tanks be upgraded with a continuous non-metallic sleeve, or an oil safety valve.

The law also requires that insurance companies offer homeowners the opportunity to purchase additional insurance to aid in oil spill remediation. The insurance is not mandatory for Oil heated homes.

This Law is in effect now, and a July 1, 2010 deadline is also in effect. If your oil line is not protected with either remedy mentioned above then you must conform to this new law by July 1, 2010.

If you already have an oil safety valve at the oil tank attached to the oil line, than you are ok, and all set. Or, if your oil line is in a non-metallic sleeve than you are ok and in compliance. Any questions, please call the office.
